We would like to introduce the CARNEY COUGAR “FUN RUN” Fundraiser for the Fall. Students will solicit pledges from families and friends, fill out the pledge form with the appropriate pledges and return the form with money by the October 27th deadline. That is all there is to it. Students can qualify for prizes by having their forms in on time, with as little as a $10 donation, and it goes up from there. If families and friends are not in the area, the option of secure online donations is possible by clicking here. We have a special area set up for it so that students can receive credit for the donations. The event itself will take place on Friday, November 6th. The Parkville YMCA will be on site to facilitate the Fun Run and the students will, at their scheduled time (TBA), ‘have fun and run.’ If it rains, the rain date is November 13th . Parents and family members are invited to attend at their student’s scheduled times (schedule to follow) as signed in invited guests. If you can, we could also use some volunteer help the day of the event. If you are available, please email vicepresident@carneypta.org. Any questions, email info@carneypta.org. Download the Flyer, Pledge Form, or Letter if you need a copy. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!! Please join us whether you are a PTA member or not. This is your opportunity to meet our Principal, Barbara McLennan. Learn what the future will bring to Carney. Ask some questions and stop wondering. We will need to conduct a little PTA business too. We will have a short General Membership meeting so that we can elect a new treasurer and approve this year’s budget.

WE HAVE GREAT NEWS TO SHARE: The Superintendent's office is working on a mandatory heat closure/early dismissal rule! They are looking at using the heat index forecast with the goal of making heat closure/early dismissal decisions the night before instead of announcing these decisions the day of the extreme heat! They are also looking at measures for non air-conditioned schools during heat events such as ensuring schools allow students to have water bottles, possibly requiring non air-conditioned classrooms to have thermometers, etc. It will expedite the process to have a BCPS Rule rather than a Board Policy because policies must go through 3 readings at BoE meetings and take longer to enact. The new rule will be written over the next 2 weeks. We look forward to reporting more as we learn it. Thank you to every parent, teacher, student, lawmaker, and BoE member who advocated for a mandatory heat closure policy/rule and thank you to the Superintendent who heard our plea. For your convenience we now offer the option to join the PTA online using a credit card. There are no additional fees, so do it today!
Visit our calendar page to view our schedule for the year. Please note activities are posted for the day, times are not currently accurate.

The Carney Elementary family is pleased to welcome Barbara McLennan as Principal of Carney Elementary School beginning July 2015! Ms. McLennan comes to Carney from Dundalk Elementary School where she also served as Principal. We look forward to meeting Ms. McLennan when it is time to head back to school.
Our Carney family would like to wish the best of luck to Mrs. Sharon Ward who served as Principal of Carney Elementary School for the last two years. Mrs. Ward is moving on to a new position within the Baltimore County Public School system. We wish her well and thank her for all of her excellent work while Principal of Carney Elementary School.
